Preity Zinta, the co-owner of Punjab Kings (PBKS) and a well-known actress, expressed her frustration regarding a contentious decision made by the third umpire during the PBKS match against Delhi Capitals (DC).
Active on social media, Zinta did not hold back during a fan interaction, criticizing the umpire's ruling that denied a six hit by batsman Sashank Singh on the final ball of the 14th over in the recent game.
Zinta Confirms with Karun Nair on the Disputed Call
In a post on her X account, Zinta labeled such errors by the third umpire as 'unacceptable' in high-stakes tournaments like the Indian Premier League (IPL).
She mentioned having a conversation with Karun Nair, the fielder who attempted to catch the ball at the boundary, who affirmed that it was indeed a six.
"In a tournament of this caliber, with advanced technology available to the Third Umpire, such mistakes should not occur. I spoke to Karun after the match, and he confirmed it was DEFINITELY a 6! I rest my case," Zinta stated.
Impact of the Controversial Decision on the Match
The incident occurred during the match between DC and PBKS. While batting, Karun Nair signaled for a six after attempting a catch near the boundary, but the third umpire reviewed the footage and ruled it was not a six.
The umpire concluded there was no evidence of Nair touching the boundary line, resulting in only one run being awarded to PBKS.
In the match, Sameer Rizvi delivered an impressive performance, scoring an unbeaten 58 runs off just 25 balls, leading Delhi Capitals to chase down a target of 207 runs and secure a six-wicket victory at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Rizvi's explosive innings included three boundaries and four sixes, contributing significantly to the Capitals' win. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings have already secured a playoff spot, currently positioned second with seventeen points.
